|5 Things Every Parent Should Know Before Choosing A Dance
Yes. There are 5 main things that can make a huge difference in the quality of instruction for your child
satisfaction of being involved with a dance program!
Here are 5 things that every parent should consider before receiving, the amount of extra work and hassles the
parents must deal with and the overall enjoyment and deciding on a dance studio for their child. Here are 5
things that every parent should consider before deciding on a dance studio for their child.
1. What type of dance floor is used?
Dance is very physical activity that requires a lot of jumping, which can put stress on bones and joints. Most
dance footwear dose not provides any cushioning or support, so the shock of dance movement can place a lot
of pressure on knees and back of a dancer. The best way to prevent against potential injury is by choosing a
studio with professional “floating floor”. A floating floor is a dance floor that rests on a system of high-
density foam, to absorb the shock of jumping. A high-density foam base is superior to a “spring” floor, which
usually consists of a wood structure built on regular floor.
Shooting Star Dance Studio is equipped with a 28 feet x 24 feet and 24 feet x 23 feet floating floor.
2. What is the size of the class?
If the dance class has fewer students in it, each child will receive more personalized attention, learn more and
have more fun. With younger students it is easier for a teacher to maintain control over the class and make
sure each student understands the concepts and instructions. Our smaller class sizes make sure that no
fundamental concepts are being missed. A smaller class sizes also allows our teachers to ensure that students
are not developing bad habits or improper technique.
Shooting Star Dance Studio limits all of our classes (age’s 6-Up) to a maximum of just 20 students per class.
With our “preschool” classes (age’s 3-5) we limit all our classes to a maximum of just 10 students per class.
3. What if my child isn’t a “serious dancer?
Our studio welcomes all types of dancers by offering technique classes for all ages and levels. Our classes
meet once a week with an end of a year recital. We do offer competition team for those students who want.
We encourage all of our dancers to participate in school and other extra-curricular activities as these are
vitally important to a child’s development.
4. Are the parents kept well informed?
When looking at a studio you should know the kinds of experience you the parents can expect. If you have
never been involved in dance before, thing like costumes, make-up, dance shoes and dress rehearsals may
seem a little overwhelming. How does the studio address the needs of the parent? If they do not keep you
well informed, things can get very confusing.
We at Shooting Star Dance Studio give you monthly news letter that has everything you need to know about
becoming informed and involved in dance class. When registering for dance classes, Policies and Procedures
will inform the typical issues and costs that do come up. If you ever have question, or lost your monthly news
letter, you can always visit www.shootingstardancestudio.com to get the right information. We will strive to
provide you with the best customer service possible so that your experience with us as well as your child’s
will be an enjoyable one.
5. Is there anything else I should consider?
Is the studio comfortable?
Our studio is equipped with side to side mirrors is both dance rooms so that dancers are able to view
themselves and the teacher easily. Our waiting room is enclosed with a TV to watch class in session.
Is the location safe?
For our children’s safety, our studio is tucked safely away from any busy streets, passer by, or side parking.
We have a large parking lot for family and friend to come and watch classes.
What kind of life experience is your child receiving overall?
Our studio embraces a whole child philosophy. We know that dance classes may be only a small part of an
otherwise busy and often chaotic life. We strive to help you instill in your child good values, self esteem and
healthy, positive self expression. We encourage our students to always do their best outside of the studio in
other areas of their lives as well. We are involved at a personal level as much as possible and try to always
be available to discuss any special needs or concerns you may have about your child.
In short: We Care!!
